First doses completed and arrangements for second doses

We have now happily managed to complete our programme of first doses of covid 19 vaccinations for all of our patients aged 75 and above, and those who were on the sheilding list. There are a handful of individual patients who were unable to get their vaccines for reasons outwith their control and we have contacted these patients individually- we are awaiting word from the health board regarding 'mop up' arrangements to ensure these patients will be vaccinated, and will share details of this as soon as we have any. We understand some housebound patients are still awaiting their vaccines from the housebound teams and that these arrangements are ongoing

We will now be looking ahead to administering the second doses. These are to be delivered within 12 weeks of the first dose and it is our current intention to start administering second dose vaccines in the week beginning March 22nd. In order to ensure all our patients get their vaccines in the appropriate timeframe, we have assigned appointments for this. Patients will be contacted by letter over the next few weeks confirming vaccination date and times. Please make every effort to attend the appointment given to you, and if you are unable to then please make us aware as early as possible.

Patients aged 75-80 and those on the sheilding list

We are pleased to say we have now vaccinated the vast majority of our patients aged 80 and above who are able to attend the practice. The housebound team from outwith the practice is currently working through those who are housebound.

We are now in a position to invite our patients aged 75-80 to the practice for their vaccinations. Invites have been sent this week and many of you are already booked in to receive your first vaccination. Those who arent yet booked in will have ample oppurtunity to do so.

After this, we will be inviting all our patients who are on the sheilding list to get a vaccination. We anticipate we will be able to start offering vaccines to this group towards the end of next week (week beginning 1/2/21) and will send out invites as soon as this is confirmed.

These are the only three groups of patients (those aged 80 and over, aged 75-80 and those on the sheilding list) that GP practices have been asked to vaccinate. All of our other patients will be invited for vaccinations through the health board in line with the governments stated timetable.

We will of course be in touch regarding the second doses of vaccines for our patients as soon as we have further details of this.

Covid 19 vaccination for over 80s

Now that the Oxford/ Astra Zeneca vaccine has been approved by the MHRA for use in the UK we are delighted to start preparations to roll out the vaccination programme.

As per the Scottish Government, we will be responsible for the vaccination of our patients who are over 80 years of age. This excludes those who are in care homes or those who are housebound- these groups will be vaccinated by different teams outwith the practice, in the same way the seasonal flu vaccine in delivered to these patients. These groups will be contacted seperately.

We are expecting the vaccines to arrive with us at the start of January, most likely either the week beginning the 11th or the 18th. Once our delivery date is confirmed we will be contacting our eligible patients by either text or phone to book appointments. We were not able to safely deliver the flu vaccines in the surgery this year due to the sheer numbers involved. However, the group of patients we have been tasked to give the covid 19 vaccine to is significantly smaller, so happily we will be able to give these vaccines in the practice.

This is all the information we have available at the moment. Please do not phone the practice for any further information. We will share any updates with you via this website.

We look forward to inviting you for your vaccine very soon.
